Larry Brooks

Larry began his wine drinking career at the tender age of 17 when he became infatuated with German Riesling. Shortly after he discovered the near miraculous effects of French champagne on his sex life, and there has been no looking back. After accumulating some degrees, largely useless, from Rutgers and UC Davis, and some years spent in sales, very usefully, he took to the making of wine in 1979. Like Paul on the road to Damascus this was a life changing event. There have been good vintages and bad since, but the initial love for and fascination with transforming grapes into wine has not changed. Larry ended up spending 19 happy vintages at Acacia. He followed with a few years of executive winemaking at Chalone. He has been out consulting and working on his own wines, Amethyst and Campion for the past five years. When he's goofing around there's usually a book or a bike nearby.
